“Tell me a story you don’t want to forget.”

Photo cred Phoebe Fettig Images: “Gene reading Janelle Monáe’s The Memory Librarian and Other Stories of Dirty Computer on the couch”

The line for the title of this blog comes from a scene in Janelle Monáe’s short story collection when Jane is in the cave regathering her power from the earth as a resistance leader by digging her hands into the soil and trying to recall memories she does not want to forget that the New Dawn has tried to wipe from her mind by using the NEVERMIND agent upon her. She recalls her lovers Ché and Zen who helped her escape the facility.

If you have ever experienced any form of conversion therapy or social programming, you will really relate to this story.

My new collection AZALEAS & Other Edible Flowers is set to hit the market here in less than 2 weeks, and I could not be happier with how the book turned out. From my blurb on the back of the book, I have described it as delivering insight into the human condition and its time war for moments of peace and love. I am literally telling stories I do not want to forget in order to re-remember them and let them go down in history as something that is passed down throughout the generations. They are that good.

AZALEAS is a purely poetic work so do forgive its liberties.
