It’s Spooky Season & Everyone in Minneapolis Thinks They’re A spy

POV: you are an adult male who has just finished writing his second draft of a YA urban fantasy novel you’ve written following the point of view of a teenage girl who at the very beginning of the novel has her diary stolen by a bully.

No, but for real. This hyperbolic entry in my journal about how everyone in Minneapolis thinks they are spies is legit the truth. & it’s not just that ‘racial and ethnic conflict’ and ‘class warfare’ at the national level has forced everyone to use coded language to communicate with each other.

FACTS: allegedly, the COINTELPRO was disbanded in the 1970s, but everyone here still operates as if the COINTELPRO is still present in their circles. For those of you who don’t know what the COINTELPRO was, it’s goal was to suppress, fracture, and neutralize political dissent and social movements deemed radical or subversive. Is there good reason for all this subterfuge amongst groups?

Let’s take a look at my last Blog entry about ‘real threats to the queer community’ and consider why the COINTELPRO still possibly being present amongst circles is a real threat. Anytime a more militant group comes into contact with a more peaceful society they use coercion as a tactic to try to gain control of that society’s resources. They promise more power, resources, or defense, though a peaceful people need no defenses except from those who seek to control them by these means. What people who are living peacefully and blissfully away from the troubles of war do not understand is that as soon as they start bartering away their peaceful lives for these things that they have given up their own freedom, power, and sovereignty.

You have not only invited but welcomed the surveillance state into your presence. This wasn’t something you randomly clicked online and were forced to consent to or else not be able to access it. You wanted more power. You wanted more resources. You wanted more control. You wanted more technology. You made an exchange with the state. You wanted to call your mom or girlfriend (or for some of you out there, your other girlfriend). You made an exchange with a corporate tower. What you were able to access and who you were able to call mattered whether or not you had friends at that tower. & you wanted to be able to do that, so you put them in those power positions.

COINTELPRO is boots on the street responding to these tower pings. They have that intel that you do not and are gathering it from multiple sources in order to try to pin you down.

Meanwhile, you are just on the phone with your mom or girlfriend.

Good thing my non-existent girlfriend isn’t spilling state secrets!

Sorry this language isn’t that concrete. I don’t quite have all the facts and cannot materialize what is simply not that hard to connect.
